概要 | Prior research suggests that people often hold incomplete or inaccurate beliefs about creativity. Across four studies, we investigated whether recognizing the importance of persistence enhances creative performance. A pilot survey (n = 199) revealed that people tend to value flexible thinking but not persistent thinking in creativity. In Studies 1 (n = 94) and 2 (n = 80), participants who believed persistence was important showed reduced underestimation of persistence and increased serial order effects in the Unusual Uses Task. Study 3 (n = 365) demonstrated that participants who were instructed on the value of persistence performed better on tasks requiring sustained creative effort than those who received no such instruction. Mediation analysis indicated that increased time spent on the task explained the performance improvement. These findings suggest that beliefs about creativity influence creative behavior and that emphasizing persistence can enhance creative performance. |
