概要 This research examined how beliefs about willpower influence self-control performance through cognitive resource use and recovery. In Study 1, people who viewed willpower as limited conserved mental energy for future tasks, unlike those who saw it as unlimited. Study 2 showed that those with a nonlimited view of willpower were less likely to restore resources after exertion, resulting in poorer self-control (ego depletion). Study 3 found that even these individuals improved performance after deliberate restoration. Overall, the studies highlight the resilience of those who see willpower as limited and the potential vulnerability of those who see it as nonlimited.
