概要 | Laboratory experiments on spray icing were carried out using simple-shaped test specimens. Experiments were conducted by spraying approximately 20 ‰ urea-doped water with different combinations of specimen angle and spray particle size. The air temperature in the cold room was maintained at approximately –10 °C. The wind velocity near the center of the specimen was approximately 10 m/s. Each experiment was conducted for 30 minutes, and at the end of the test, the icing weight was measured. In the early stages of icing, due to the hydrophobic feature of marine paint, the pieces of the spray ice often exfoliated. A comparison of the amount of ice per specimen area for each test showed that although a peak of icing was observed at the centerline of the spray, the amount of icing was higher at the downwind edge. Therefore, it was found that the impinging spray water flowed downwind and froze. |
